My first blog posted via Word 2007

I’m currently playing around with Office 2007 Enterprise as a preparation for some presentations. It’s really nice to be able now to post entries to my space via Word 2007.

Creating an IBF Compliant Web Service for Axapta

Yesterday I was requested to create an Information Bridge Framework 1.5 (IBF) compliant Web service that exposes customer information from an Axapta environment.

First I thought that this wouldn't be easy. However it merely took me 2 hours to develop a fully functioning IBF solution for Axapta. I still find this pretty impressive given that I had no experience at all with programmatically interacting with Axapta.

Make a SQL Server table accessible in the Task Pane of Microsoft Office 2003 via IBF in 10 Simple Steps

Next Wednesday April 23rd from 17.30 until 20.00, I'll be presenting during a TechNet Evening about Information Bridge Framework 1.5.

IBF is a framework to ‘connect’ Microsoft Office 2003 as a front-end to any back-end system, be it a contemporary ERP system or a legacy database environment. The implementation of such a ‘bridge’ between Microsoft Office and a back-end system can be realized completely by configuration and without any real coding. IBF however is based on XML and Web services. This means that Web services have to be setup on the back-end system compliant to a number of rules. This will not always be a simple and easy task. In many cases, however, a simple ‘link’ between Microsoft Office and a database will already improve end-user productivity a lot. Imagine you can easily lookup customer information or product data from within the task pane of Microsoft Office. Imagine that (in case SQL Server is used as database) this can easily be done in a limited number of steps within a short time frame. In this session you will learn how to do just that.
